2018-2019: School Start Date

Dear Parents,
As you may know Cambodia will hold a general election in 2018. This is set for 29th July. In the past there have been protests and demonstrations before and after the election day. A number of organisations, including Asian Hope are concerned about how this may affect us and the families at our schools.  I have spoken to other school leaders as well to see what they are doing.  Some schools usually start later than we do anyway and others are deliberately changing so that they start later.

This is what has been decided for Logos / AHIS:
As there may be cause for concern within Phnom Penh after the election due to demonstrations that may escalate to violence and disruption to travel, we will start school later in August than we originally planned in the calendar. We will need to condense our new staff orientation as well.

It will look like this:
August 6th - 10th: Orientation for staff
Monday, August 13th: New student orientation day
Tuesday, August 14th: First Day of School - School begins for all students

The 2018 - 19 school year will continue to be 180 days for students. We will work on that calendar as soon as we can and share it with you. The annual tuition fees will continue to be split into 10 monthly payments for you convenience and the first payment will be due on 1st August as usual.

There will be more information about this nearer to the time but we wanted to let you know about the later start date as soon as we  had made the decision.

Please forward any concerns or other information to Pam Sephton Director of Education, psephton@asianhope.org

Library Corner

October is Reading Month for elementary students!  Our theme is "Logos Students are reading stars!

During Reading Month, all elementary students have the opportunity to read the same four folktales in e-book format.  Students in grades 3-5 have been shown how to login and they can read the books on their own.  Students in Kindergarten through grade 2 will share the e-book during their weekly library visit.  Login information will also be sent home with these students so they can read the books at home.  Each Sunday during October a new e-book will be released. Our first book is Party croc: a folktale from Zimbabwe retold by Margaret Read Macdonald.

E-books can be accessed at gg.gg/logosread  If you need help with logging in, please stop by the library or contact Mrs. Ralph at cralph@asianhope.org

Scholastic orders are going home today!  Scholastic provides great books at reasonable prices. And don't forget--each order helps us buy new books for our library!  Please have all orders and money returned to the school by Wednesday, October 4.
