Updated Middle School Device Policy

Beginning Thursday, January 30, middle school students will not be allowed to use personal cell phones, tablets, or other small mobile devices on the Logos campus between 8:00 am and 3:15 pm. All phones and tablets must be turned off and stowed away in students’ backpacks or lockers during the school day. This new policy will be in effect for the rest of the school year.

Students with laptops and Chromebooks may only use their laptop/Chromebook in class for school work with teacher permission.  Middle school students may also use laptops or Chromebooks in the library for academic purposes during lunch or break time.

If students are caught with phones or tablets out of their backpacks or lockers during the school day, teachers and staff members will confiscate the device and bring it to the office. Parents may pick up their students’ phones or tablets after school.

Volunteer History Day Judges Needed

We’re looking for volunteer History Day Judges on Thursday, February 27. The Grades 6, 7, 8, 9 & 10 History students will be diligently working on papers, exhibits, websites, plays, and documentaries revolving around the theme of Breaking Barriers in History for Logos’ Fourth Bi-annual History Day, which will be held at Logos on Thursday, February 27.
We are seeking about 10 adult volunteers to help judge the students’ entries from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm. Judges for some categories do not need to be present for the entire day, so it is possible for volunteers to help out for only a few hours. Judges also do not need to be historical experts; they just need to have a good grasp of the English Language and a willingness to offer their opinions.
If you or someone you know is interested in helping, please contact Mrs. Young at jyoung@asianhope.org.

From the Nurse:  Virus Outbreak

Dear Parents and Students,

Thank you for your support in raising awareness about good handwashing and respiratory hygiene. We are entering the Influenza Virus Season,  and it is a good time to make sure you and your family are vaccinated appropriately. Worldwide, influenza causes are up to 5 million cases of severe illness and kills 650,000 people every year. In Comparison to the 2019-nCoV globally 4.593 confirmed cases with 4537 confirmed in China, and 106 deaths. Outside of China there are 56 confirmed cases in 14 different countries.
At Logos we strive to provide an environment where not just learning can be achieved but a safe and healthy atmosphere for all our students, parents, staff and community at large. We are monitoring current events and continue developing procedures in the event additional actions are needed to ensure our campus stays healthy.

Swimming Classes
We are aware that a number of students and parents have become concerned about the spreading of the Novel Coronavirus in Cambodia. At this stage, there is only one reported case [a Chinese male, in Sihanoukville], but we continue with our prevention methods and remind students stay hygienic. We are aware that some students and parents have expressed concerns that the virus can be spread in the swimming pool. We have taken these concerns very seriously and have done considerable research:

  • Many viruses cannot exist outside of the host’s body for long. Therefore, viruses like influenza and the Coronavirus are very unlikely to spread in pools with appropriate levels of chlorine.
  • Most reports of water-bound illnesses are because of swimming in non-chlorinated or low-chlorinated water. Our pool water is checked for appropriate chlorine levels every day before our students even enter the water.
  • The best ways to prevent spreading bacteria in water is staying out of the water if you have recently had diarrhea, taking regular toilet breaks (for young children) and having a shower before going in the pool. We already enforce these rules, so we are confident there should not be any need to worry about the spread of viruses or bacteria.
  • Children should also avoid swallowing water while swimming.
  • Physical exercise, such as swimming, actually helps people maintain a good immune system to fight off illness and disease. It is also important to have a healthy diet. If you are healthy, you are much less likely to get ill or catch viruses.

We recommend that swimming classes continue with the appropriate measures we are currently taking.
Thank you for your cooperation and support to keep our students and campus safe!
